Jenn Schindler Grow in Grace and Knowledge devotion for North Park Church

I've gotten a little behind on my study of John - it's been busy and I've allowed myself to get distracted. So tonight I set down to try and catch up...after making up a good portion of what I have missed, I came across a great passage in 2 Peter that I wanted to share with anyone willing to read my blog - it has such a great message and just what I needed to hear. 2 Peter 2:17 - 18 Therefore, dear friends, since you already know this, be on your guard so that you may not be carried away by… Continue

Jenn Schindler I'm Trying to Tell you Something....(devotion for North Park Church)

Ever feel like someone was trying to tell you something? I'm taking part in a Bible study on Wednesday mornings. It is a study of the book of John and we pretty much go line by line with the scripture to reveal the truth in the Word. Each week we are asked to write on our cover the most important thing that we have taken away from our study in the past week and how we will apply it to our lives. As I paused to write my lesson this week I reflected on what I wrote down for last week... Joh… Continue

Don Schindler Bringing people to North Park - a daily devotion to North Park

Marketing and advertising for a church is tough. Tougher than I thought it would be. Mainly because I don't want to waste money on things that have any small return. Average for a direct mail piece is 2.5%. Ouch. Those things costs a lot of money and the return is not great. Forget advertising in newspaper, radio or TV. We don't have anywhere near the budget. Besides none of those things are guaranteed. People ignore advertising like gnats. They bat it, knock it away, but we keep coming back… Continue

Jenn Schindler I Need You - devotion for North Park Church

Weakness - it's a bad thing right. When I think weakness I think failure. I think of all those things that I can't do. But I was given a new perspective on weakness tonight - one filled with hope and victory rather than failure. I am reading Fresh Wind, Fresh Fire by Jim Cymbala, he writes, "God is attracted to weakness. He can't resist those who humbly and honestly admit how desperately they need him. Our weakness, in fact, makes room for his power." Now that's good stuff. That… Continue

Jermaine Cell phone Vs. The Bible

Cell phone vs. Bible Ever wonder what would happen if we treated our Bible like we treat our cell phone? What if we carried it around in our purses or pockets? What if we flipped through it several time a day? What if we turned back to go get it if we forgot it? What if we used it to receive messages from the text? What if we treated it like we couldn't live without it? 0D What if we gave it to Kids as gifts? What if we used it when we traveled? What if we used it in case of… Continue

Jenn Schindler Revisiting an Old Study, a North Park devotion...

I've been a Christian for just over 12 years or so...some times walking more in faith than others. Some times spending a great deal more time in the Word and in a relationship with Him than others. I just started a new study this past week. I'm studying the Book of John. I've studied it before, but I am so excited to get into it again. Throughout my Christian walk I have heard of people saying that they just aren't being fed anymore. That maybe the message at their church isn't challenging the… Continue

Don Schindler Abortion and Obama Ad and my thoughts as a Christian

Personally, I don't care who you vote for in this election. I'm still on the fence somewhat but I'll tell you this, the Obama campaign should be very careful about how they promote and tear down their competitor. I heard a radio commercial the other day that basically says if McCain gets in office, he will outlaw abortion. Well, if he can, so be it. I hate that we have abortion in this country and killing children so we can protect our own lives (calling it a choice) is crazy to me especially… Continue

Don Schindler There's a process to follow

We are working on some new processes at work and I'm really involved in a quite a few of them on the creative side. It's been a long time coming and I'm really excited about how they are laying things out so I don't have to wonder where I fit into the machine. But, to tell you the truth, I'm really happy God isn't that way. I was raised Catholic and there's nothing more in killing to a young boy then to follow the processes day in and day out. I used to think church was a burden and that you… Continue

Jenn Schindler 30 Days Come and Gone (well, actually more...)

So as I set out on the journey of the 30 days my intentions along the way was that I would post a blog every day for 30 days. I'd like to take some time to share with you what I have learned over this time...I would LOVE to hear from any of you who have read even just one of the posts to find out what you were able to take away from my journey... So here we go, lessons learned.... 1. Even with the best of intentions, life happens, and finding time to sit down with a laptop for 30 days straigh… Continue

Don Schindler Things are getting better at work - Praise to God

My blogs aren't usually praises but I do have to say that things are finally turning around at work so I can breathe little. I owe it all to pray, to my wife's encouragement and to my North Park family for keeping me in their prayers. He is so good. Today I just wanted to let the rest of you know that if you bring it to Him things will change. He can do anything He likes but if you never ask Him, then why should He step in and help. I always do this with our kids. "If you would just ask, I'l… Continue

Don Schindler Working for a New Boss - Devotion to North Park Community Church

So I came into today and I've got a new boss. Can you believe it? I just got a new one and now there's this new guy. He came right up to me when I got into work and said, "Don." Can you believe it? He already knew my name. "Don," He said, "I want you to know that you're working for me now." I was a little taken aback. I don't work for bosses. I work for the company. I work for myself and my family. I'm not working for you. He put his hand on my shoulder. I'm not big into people touching me.… Continue

Don Schindler Stars, Mondays and God's coolness

Ok, so I was reading a small blurb in Max Lucado's Grace book. It's a daily devotional book. I pick it up every morning - and it's like a quick shot of expresso (God style) to get me going. I don't know if the one I read was today's but it hit me and I wanted to share. It spoke of the vastness of space and the stars. That astronomers have estimated that there are as many stars in space as there is sand on all the beaches combined. And I thought, "Wow, that's a lot of stars." Why did God make… Continue

Don Schindler Voting for God - Why do these media companies have these things? Devotion to North Park Community Church.

There's a voting widget on MSNBC asking if we should remove "In God We Trust" off our currency. http://www.msnbc.msn.com/id/10103521/ When I voted a few days ago, it was much closer (like 40/60). Now it's like 20/80. Seriously. What are we supposed to replace it with? In USA We Trust, In Government We Trust, In People We Trust? I can't think of a thing that I trust more than Him. After Him, is my wife and our families. Go vote. They probab… Continue

Jenn Schindler It Takes a Village

Parenting is tough. Though I'm sure that profound statement doesn't come as a surprise to any of you. Some days I am better than others. Some days I have endless patience and unlimited energy. Other days it doesn't take much to get a timeout and what I am hoping for at times is for someone to send me to timeout so I can get a break. It can be hard too because I am with the kids all day so I am the one who does the majority of the discipline. Daddy comes home and that's when the fun rea… Continue

Don Schindler The courage to stand up for Him - Devotion to North Park Community Church

I have a new boss. Nice enough guy. Jury is out on whether he can bring changes that the company needs so desperately. But the problem I have with him is faith. I've never really had a boss that used Christ's name in vain. Not GD but for lots of other things. It's always Jesus this or Jesus that. Or Christ's sake. Things that back in the day I wouldn't have found offensive are like knife in the back. I'm looking for the courage to stand up and tell him how I feel. How much damage he is doing… Continue

Jenn Schindler Jesus, Take the Wheel

Yesterday I commented on how my devotion was brought full circle, and today is yet another amazing example of how conversations with others, drilled home my time with the Lord. Summer is coming to an end and to embrace what we have left of it I wanted to head to the pool with the kids this afternoon. Before leaving I touched base with Don through IM to see if he wanted to meet us there. He was stressed. Without a beat the Spirit took over and began using me to send Him the exact message He need… Continue

Don Schindler Out of Whack and Daily Devotion to North Park Community Church

I woke up late today and I'm so frustrated with myself. On top of that, I messed up Jenn's routine with the kids of trying to get them on the bus. I'm sure all you husbands can understand that. You try to help but by being there you are causing the whole system to get out of whack. That's how I feel right now. Out of whack with what is going on. My job, my connection with God, my life at home. Everything is not settled and I don't understand why. It's like He is calling me to do something an… Continue

Jenn Schindler The Quality of My Committment

I had a conversation with some friends tonight that really brought my devotion full circle for me today. We were talking about putting our best forward. About being committed and stepping up for excellence in all we do for God. Earlier today I read in 1st Corinthians 3:12 - 15: If any man builds on this foundation using gold, silver, costly stones, wood, hay or straw, his work will be shown for what it is, because the Day will bring it to light. It will be revealed with fire, and the fire will… Continue

Don Schindler Living in fear and Daily Devotion to North Park Community Church

Beth Jones is a women's Christian author and pastor in Michigan. She's a client of mine and my company has built her website and online community, which is going very well BTW. She sends out her blog in a daily email and I receive it. It's usually thoughtful and always includes a nice scripture - much like my wife's. Her email today was about fear. My wife and I have been toying around w… Continue

Jenn Schindler The Seed

I feel like when I am on, I am "ON" and when I am off, I'm pretty much off in most places in my life. It's no accident that when I am in tune spiritually, when I am in constant connection with my faith and my relationship with God that other things in my life seem to fit. Now, please don't get me wrong...this doesn't mean that the days are easy, but it means that I am better equipped to handle whatever comes my way. When I am ON spiritually, I am usually ON physically and emotionally as well.… Continue
